Bidfood is one of the UK’s leading food service distributors and a division under a Bidcorp subsidiary, supplying more than 10,000 food, drink, and catering supply products to over 40,000 customers across a diverse range of sectors.

These include hotels, restaurants, pubs, care homes, prisons, hospitals, schools, and universities. With a national network of 27 depots, Bidfood prides itself on maintaining strong, local relationships and ensuring timely delivery and support to customers throughout the UK.

What Bidcorp needed

With a strong commitment to advancing energy efficiency, Bidfood participates in the UK’s Climate Change Agreement (CCA) scheme. The CCA scheme supports their drive to meet ambitious efficiency targets and demonstrates their dedication to responsible energy management, with the added benefit of receiving Climate Change Levy (CCL) reductions for achieving those goals.

Bidfood needed a new partner to manage the reapplication process for 24 of their sites under the new CCA phase (2026–2030). For this, they required expert guidance to navigate the complex data collection, eligibility assessments, and submission process.

Energise's approach

At Energise, we partnered closely with Bidfood to deliver a seamless, data-driven project management process from start to finish. The project was led by Tom, a Principal Consultant in our Energy team, who brought deep expertise in CCA management, regulatory engagement, and energy efficiency strategy. Tom’s hands-on approach and clear communication were instrumental in guiding Bidfood through the transition, ensuring that every site’s data and documentation met the latest scheme requirements.

  1. Comprehensive Data Collection: We gathered 12 months of detailed gas, electricity, and production data across 24 sites, alongside site plans and other relevant operational information. This provided a robust foundation for analysis and compliance preparation.
  2.  70:30 Surveys and Energy Balances: Each site underwent a 70:30 survey to determine its eligibility under the scheme. Through these surveys, we developed detailed energy balances that accurately reflected site energy use and production activity, a critical component for CCA qualification.
  3.  Identification of Energy Savings Opportunities: During site visits, our team identified practical opportunities to reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency. These insights were captured in comprehensive site reports, supporting Bidfood in meeting CCA targets.
  4. Application Management and Submission: We prepared and submitted all application packs for the new CCA phase, ensuring compliance with the scheme’s requirements. Our team responded promptly to all follow-up queries from the relevant authorities, ensuring a smooth and timely approval process.

“Over the last year, Tom has been a trusted and valued advisor to our business. Responding to numerous queries raised by the sector body in relation to Bidcorp’s Climate Change Agreements, all of which fell outside of the standard remit."
