ESG (Sustainability) isn’t dying…it just needs to grow up
Our Co-CEO Simon Alsbury shares the trajectory of ESG and where the future of sustainability lies for meaningful impact.
This March marks B Corp Month globally, and the third B Corp month we’re celebrating at Energise since our certification in 2022. B Corps, or Gen B as we call ourselves, are a global movement of for-profit businesses, with the collective goal of building an inclusive and sustainable economy that works for everyone.
With B Corps leading the change across over 9,500 organisations (a quarter of those being in the UK), let’s take a moment to pause and reflect on what this means for us in 2025.
Energise is built on the expertise, passion, and commitment of our team. We believe that fostering a culture of learning, wellbeing, and sustainability is essential to delivering impact—both internally and through our work with customers. Naturally, our goals aligned with the B Lab ethos and applying to become a Certified B Corp was a natural fit.
B Corps are leading the movement of impactful businesses forward, together. We recognise that sustainability is multi-faceted, encompassing not only environmental concerns but also social responsibility, governance, and long-term resilience. Our approach is built on the belief that businesses need practical, holistic solutions that support them at every stage of their sustainability journey.

Tamsin Alsbury, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Energise, explains, “We’re proud to be part of the B Corp community — not just for the badge, but because it holds us to account on the things that matter: cutting carbon emissions, reducing harm, and building a business that restores more than it takes.
“When organisations — including our own — align purpose with action, and put regeneration at the heart of how they operate, that’s when we unlock real, lasting impact for people and planet.”
We were proud to certify with a score of 105.2 out of 200, compared to the score of 50.9 for a standard business and 80 needed to qualify for B Corp status. Over the past three years, we’ve strategically made progress across all 5 pillars of B Corp certification. It’s so important to us to acknowledge both the progress we’ve made, plus understanding that there’s always scope for further improvements!
The sustainability landscape is becoming increasingly complex. Businesses are navigating a growing web of compliance requirements, including evolving corporate sustainability reporting standards, supply chain due diligence laws, and regulatory expectations. At the same time, many organisations face financial pressures that may tempt them to deprioritise sustainability investments. However, pulling back now is not an option—businesses that fail to act risk falling behind in a market that is rapidly shifting towards greater accountability, stakeholder scrutiny, and long-term value creation.
Tamsin explains, “Looking ahead, we recognise the need to lead by example. We are committed to embedding sustainability even further into our own operations, learning from the successes of our customers, and ensuring that we hold ourselves to the same high standards we encourage others to meet.”
“While we have made progress in supporting businesses on their decarbonisation journeys, we recognise that we must do more. The urgency of the climate challenge demands that businesses act boldly, think bigger, and lead with integrity. That means not only reducing our own environmental footprint but also inspiring change across industries, advocating for stronger action, and proving that sustainability and business success can go hand in hand.
“In FY25, we are committed to being the change we want to see in the world. We will set clearer reduction targets for our own operations, refine our digital sustainability strategy, and work with customers and partners to accelerate climate action at scale. Sustainability is not just something we deliver—it’s something we live, and we are determined to lead by example.”
In the spirit of lifting up fellow B Corps to celebrate B Corp Month, we asked the Energise team to share their favourite brands.
A key element of B Corp Month celebrations, and even being a B Corp day-to-day, means that we are part of the collective community. We recognise that sustainability is a group effort, and sharing our wins and learnings can be transformative in setting businesses up to be a force for good.
That’s why we’re proudly Gen B.
