The 7 must-read books to help change the world

We're starting to realise that change starts with us. If we want to change the world, therefore, we first must change ourselves. It's the wonder and awe we allow ourselves to feel at the possibilities of the universe, the joy we experience from the simplest of things, and the love we feel by connecting with people that accept us exactly as we are, that make life worth living.

"Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself." - Rumi

With that in mind, here are the 7 must-read books as recommended by our team:

Be More Pirate (or How to Take on the World and Win) - Sam Conniff Allende

We introduced this book in our first Book Club session on the recommendation of our Head of Energy Engineering (and not-so-secret pirate), Jack Waring.

Why we love it: This book introduced the concept of causing good trouble, a principle we bring into our work whenever we're creating anything to challenge the status quo of our industry or 'business as usual' thinking.

Rising Strong - Brene Brown

This book, along with all of Brene's books, has helped the team understand the importance of vulnerability and how to get back up when you inevitably fall.

Why we love it: For Brene's talent for making difficult emotions accessible through story telling and her own willingness to be vulnerable; for normalising failure and teaching us how to get back up.

Random Acts of Kindness - Danny Wallace

A book about doing small, random acts of kindness for stranegrs whenever you can. The manifesto for Danny's "cult", the Karma Army.

Why we love it: Because the whole world needs more kindness, and Danny's given us a suggestion for everyday of the year so there's no excure not to show a little more love to those around us.

Patagonia Business Library (A Toolkit for Shareholders of the Planet) - Yvon Chouinard

Three-books-in-one on how to run a business or activist group that takes responsibilty for its environmental impact and care for the employees who work for them.

Why we love it: for showing us that it's possible to build a successful business without damaging the environment or the people that work for it.

Unlimited Power - Anthony Robbins

Unlimited Power is a revolutionary fitness book for the mind. It will show you, step by step, how to perform at your peak while gaining emotional and financial freedom, attaining leadership and self-confidence and winning the co-operation of others.

Why we love it: for reminding us that we have the power within us to achieve anything, and for showing us how to catalyse change.

Ask and It Is Given (Learning To Manifest the Law of Attraction) - Esther and Jerry Hicks

Helps you learn how to manifest your desires so that you're living the joyous and fulfilling life you deserve.

Why we love it: for providing practical exercises to help bring peace to your life and manifest your deepest desires.

Every Time I Find the Meaning of Live, They Change It - Daniel Klein

A wryly humorous look at some of the great philosophical pronouncements on the most important question we can face.

Why we love it:

Re-centers us on the fundamentals of human nature and helps us to connect philosophy with everyday life.
