Spotlight on.. Taylor Curtis

Our people are our biggest asset. We make sure we recruit those who share our values and have the ability to develop personally and profesionally. During lockdown we’ve rallied together and kept Energise moving forward.

Today we talk to Taylor, who has been our Office Administrator for just over one year now.

Tell us about your role

My title might be Office Administrator, but I’m fortunate to be involved in so many other aspects of our operations; for example, on a day to day basis, working within Finance & Accounts is the biggest part of what I do. I make sure financial systems are up to date, but I’m also responsible for keeping the wheels turning with credit control and offering ad-hoc admin support to other departments when needed.

I’m very excited about the next few months because my role is actually about to change again! Part of my time will now be spent in the Delivery team. I’ve learnt so much about the breadth of work we do for our customers and can’t wait to see where this brand-new challenge takes me.

How did you get to where you are now?

When I was younger, I wanted to go to University to become a midwife or a nurse. It’s a bit of surprise to look back on where I thought I’m supposed to be vs. what my ambition for my career is now.

The truth is, after finishing my A Levels, I needed something different and knew I had to focus on work rather than carry on with my studies straight away. Having held a job in retail and really enjoying working with people and customer service, I decided to give an apprenticeship in Administration a go. My curious and inquisitive nature meant I kept asking my colleagues in Accounts about their jobs and what it is they do every day. They gave me the chance to shadow them and it grew on me quickly, so I got the confidence to apply for this role with Energise!

I’m glad I had the chance to work in retail for a while, I realise now I enjoy customer service. It gave me the chance to notice where my strengths lie; I know I’m a good problem solver and I like to help people.

What do you enjoy about your job at Energise?

I’ve never been part of a team like this before, it’s very inspiring to be surrounded by colleagues who are so obviously passionate about what they do.

I know the team want to see me thrive and I appreciate the support to get me where I want to be in my career. That’s key for me; I’m currently training to sit an AAT Level 2 because my next goal is to become a fully qualified accountant. I get study time during the week to focus on my coursework and I’m on track to finish my first year soon!

What inspires you?

I’m proud that I now know where I want to be and what my path looks like, so all the work I’m putting in right now is leading up to that.

The end goal of going back to studying is to become fully qualified, but there’s more to it: the opportunities that came my way showed me a whole new side to studying, which has been very different to my A Levels. I naturally get up to revise and learn, I no longer struggle to find the motivation at all. It’s a new feeling for me but it’s proven that once you do something you love, it makes life 100% easier!

What are your hopes for the future?

My role in the Energise team really put into perspective everything else I do in my personal life; I have a newfound respect for living life more consciously. I want to contribute to the change I want to see in the world.

Tell us three facts about you?

1. I loveeeee food, my favourite thing to do in my spare time is bake. I’m always getting requests from family and friends to make them a Victoria Sponge.

2. I am a big bookworm, but my favourite book meets my other passion, baking: it’s Mary Berry’s “Absolute Favourites”.

3. I love animals, especially dogs 😊
