Our people are our biggest asset so we make sure we recruit those who share our values, have the ability to develop personally and the will to continue learning professionally.
We regularly shine the spotlight on one of our team. Looking at their journey to be here now, their role and their why – what drives them.
Today we meet Carol Metherell, our Head of Internal Services. She has been with us for two years.
Tell us about your role
It’s wide-ranging, I look after HR, Finance, Facilities, H&S, IT, event organisation and I’m PA to our Directors.
What drives you?
Making a difference. My why is not just about the environment but also about our people. I’m driven by what I can do to make a difference to someone’s life, whether that’s the wellbeing of the staff at Energise, and the environment in which we work, or the people I meet in my personal life.
What do you enjoy about your job and what challenges you?
I enjoy the variety in my role and the trust that the directors put in me to make a difference. I know that my experience and knowledge is valued. I enjoy making a difference to people’s lives and want to be able to help wherever I can. I don’t see challenges, I see opportunities. I do sometimes wish I had more time in the day to action my ideas!
What are your hopes for the future?
Personally, I would like to run a marathon. The one they run at Disney looks brilliant fun. In work I hope to develop my HR knowledge and complete a formal HR qualification. I have just completed a Mental Health awareness course and would like to put that to use.
Who inspires you?
My mother. She was a strong person although she didn’t think she was. She taught me the value of family, love, caring and that it doesn’t matter what you have been through its how you deal with it that counts. She went through a lot when she was young, but she was determined not to let that affect the rest of her life.
Tell us three facts about you?
1. I enjoy DIY, in fact one Christmas I asked for a drill, workbench and belt sander as gifts
2. I enjoy running and have done several half marathons
3. I hate Gin and Marmite, controversial I know!
